Do I need solar panels for the GridVault to be worth it?

Accepted Answer

No. It's definitely true that batteries work really well with your on-site solar, maximising your savings, but they can work very well without too. For most commercial sites the battery can pay for itself on bill savings alone - charging at the cheapest part of the day, discharging during expensive peak hours, and shaving the demand spikes that drive your capacity charges.

How does installation work?

Fully turnkey. Copia handles the site survey, electrical design, DNO connection paperwork, civils, install, and commissioning. Most deployments are operational within twelve weeks of contract. You get a single point of accountability instead of juggling EPCs, electricians, and aggregators.

What tariff do I need?

Any time-of-use tariff with a meaningful peak/off-peak spread works well - the wider the gap between your daytime and overnight rates, the bigger the saving. Fully flexible or agile tariffs which follow the electricity market on a daily, hourly, or half-hourly basis can work especially well because the GridVault can charge at the very cheapest prices available - and discharge at the very highest! If you're on a flat tariff, the case is usually weaker on bill savings alone, and we'd look at whether peak demand reduction or extra market revenue can fill the gap.

How long until it pays for itself?

Accepted Answer

Most commercial sites land between three and five years to payback. The biggest drivers are your tariff structure and peak load profile; EV rapid-charging or rooftop PV usually accelerate things further. We model your site specifically before quoting - the calculator gives a rough sense, the formal business case is precise. You may also be able to benefit from HMRC capital allowances. Speak to your accountant to see if your battery investment might be eligible.

What's actually included?

What can a 261 kWh GridVault actually power?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your site's load profile, but 261 kWh is enough to do real work. As a rough sense: it can offset a continuous 50 kW baseline load for around five hours through your most expensive peak window, or buffer a single 125 kW rapid EV charger for about two hours without triggering a new demand peak from the grid. We size to your specific load curve in the formal business case.

Is the GridVault safe to install next to my facility?

Yes. The cabinet is certified to UL 9540A at both cell and module level - the strictest fire and thermal-runaway standard in commercial battery storage. Cells are continuously thermally monitored, and the unit includes gas detection, aerosol fire suppression, and blow-out panels so any fault is contained inside the cabinet. It's a standalone outdoor enclosure built to commercial fire codes and standard DNO safety requirements, and it operates from −30°C to +55°C.
